I am fascinated by sculpture that requires interaction with the viewer’s imagination. My compositional treatment of the figure plays on fragmentation in the same way the ruined façade of a once magnificent castle or a semi-exposed fossil evoke a starting point but leave the viewer’s imagination to complete the image. This theme was the basis for my earlier sculptural ceramic vessels that were based on concerns derived from drawings of fossils and continues in my more recent figurative work.

I am interested in the emotive potential of body language. Influenced by masters of the western tradition of figurative sculpture, I try to strike a balance between the classical heritage they absorbed and contemporary realism. Much of my work is autobiographical in some way.
